Camper Chic? Fashion Tips from Campers

“How about hot pink instead of black lettering?”
Students in our Fashion Design on the Computer class have some ideas about the future of our camp uniforms, and they’re not shy about sharing. The class session began with them working on their inspiration boards — collages of photos, drawings, dresses, and colors that will serve as a basis for their future designs. Green pastures, flowing fabric, and idyllic cottages scattered across one board, while another was populated with splashes of violet and a darkening sky. All in all, they looked to be works of art in and of themselves!
But things really got interesting when our site director John (unlearned in the ways of fashion) asked about their designs. One camper was pursuing a “cottagecore” aesthetic, a mix between fairy tale artistry and the light greens of the woods. Another decided to take a more rustic route, describing the reds, browns, and yellows of her proposed inspiration board as “farm chic.” Who knew there could be so much lingo in fashion?
When John asked what they thought of his ensemble — a slightly-oversized grey “Site Director” polo tucked into his blue jeans — the result was less than enthusiastic. It seems that “camper chic” isn’t exactly popular this season, and for good reason. In lieu of the muted colors and standard fonts of our official shirts, the students used their knowledge of the color wheel to brainstorm ways to brighten up the camp T-Shirts and “update” Ivy’s uniform. The burst of creativity certainly merits its own inspiration board!
Maybe later in the week, these budding fashion designers will come up with a mock-up of some new designs for our uniform! In the meantime, though, our site director will be popping in to learn a few things about fashion!
