Princeton Week 5: Cutting open a brain at camp!?

This morning in the Anatomy and Surgical Techniques class, our campers learned about the different parts of the brain and their functions. The students marveled at the fact that the different cerebral hemispheres contribute to our daily operation and activity in such different ways. They even realized that everything our body does like touch, movement and smell are all controlled by our brain. After reading and discussing the brain, the students actually got to hold a sheep’s brain and dissect it. While cutting it open, the learners analyzed what the different parts looked and felt like in person. It was so cool to hear the students identify and explain all the separate parts on a real brain as they curiously explored the organ. The camp Youngsters even stopped by to watch and hear about the sheep brain, and our older campers did an awesome job explaining the science of each part to them in ways they could understand. Later this week these future doctors and surgeons will be dissecting chickens and frogs, too!
