Civil Engineering: Shake it Up came to our Oakland location this week, seeing campers learn the basics of Civil Engineering, while also needing to design structures that could withstand winds and earthquakes. First campers made a one foot bridge that could hold at least one pound; before teaming together to make a two foot bridge that was capable of holding at least two pounds. Their next challenge was to create a building using office supplies that could withstand the shake table. Students chose to make a hospital, a church, and an apartment building. All were able to succeed in their test when completed.
