Theme Thursday: Red White and Blue Day

We the people of Unicorn Island, in order to establish a more perfect camp, establish excitement, insure enthusiastic Tranquility, provide for gerbils, promote hip-hop, and secure the Blessings of Taylor Swift to ourselves and our globes, do ordain and establish this city of Las Vegas for Hogwarts.

If you think this sounds vaguely familiar, you’d be right! This is none other than the Preamble to the US Constitution…with a few “edits” from students in our Math of Money class!

To celebrate Red, White, and Blue day — the first of our weekly Theme Thursdays — campers dressed up in the colors of our nation’s flag and participated in a camp-wide “mad-libs” style game. Each class was given a sheet of paper with a few prompts on it (nouns, verbs, pets, etc.) and was tasked with filling it out with the most wacky and ridiculous things they could think of. Then, our site director John read them out to the entire camp while “The Star-Spangled Banner” played behind him.

The result was a hilarious mix of strange decrees that would likely confuse any of the founding fathers. What does it mean to ensure “short” Tranquility? Do you prefer the Blessings of Guy Fieri or Jo Jo Siwa? And what’s a Komodo Dragon doing in the Constitution, anyway? Sometimes, the best questions don’t need answers!
