Somerset Week 8 – Interview with Alpha and Delta Nations (War and Peace Game Theory!)

Ryan Somerset News Network recently sat down with the nations of Alpha and Delta to get the scoop on local and global politics.

RSN:  Tell me a little bit about what your nation was like at the beginning?

Alpha: We started with the weakest military and one of the lowest economies but our income was strong.

Delta:  We had a strong military and economy but every turn we would only get $5  billion for income so that stifled our growth.  I learned that you need to look for stuff to increase your income because every step counts.

RSN: What were your goals toward building a strong nation?

Delta: I wanted to have a decent amount of money and good military but healthcare was an important issue for my country.  I didn’t want it to be all about building a military.  You just use military for defending and fighting but what about all the other important issues like education and healthcare?  I wanted a well-balanced country.

Alpha: Big tanks and a lot of money.

RSN: Can you describe some examples of smart purchasing?

Alpha: I would purchase solar technology which increased my income by $10 billion per turn so every time I buy it I am still making money every turn.  I am up to making $150 billion per turn as opposed to my starting of only $15 billion.

Delta: I purchased a hacking unit for $80 billion to help with my defense.  It helped improve my military by 50 points but it not a great example of smart purchasing.  A better example would be when I put my money toward education form.  It added money to my per turn income and it is an unlimited purchase item so I can increase it at anytime.  I also was happy because I knew my citizens were getting good education and as I said before it is important to me to have a strong balance of education, military, healthcare, and income.

RSN: How has your relationship with other nations changed throughout the game?

Delta:  OKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!  So initially we had a non-aggression pact and even traded raw metal, water extraction technology, and solar cells.  Things were going great until Alpha snuck up on me and attacked my base.  I put my foot down and had to declare war.  This is not how nations should work together.

Alpha: Oh um.  So we were on friendly terms with a treaty and then I got some military technology and she was building up her military to strong levels and I was convinced she was going to attack me first so I had to blow up her base.  We are now on hostile terms.

RSN: What are your plans moving forward?

Alpha: My goal is to build my economy to over $2 trillion.

Delta: My goal is to be peaceful and not have anymore wars.  I also would like to continue to save money while building a strong balanced nation with happy health and educated citizens.
