This week at International Ivy Princeton, our chemical engineering class is exploring different aspects and properties of the chemical engineering realm through fun, hands-on experiments. Yesterday they made bouncy balls using glue, borax, and water after learning about the properties of polymers and why putting elements together that contain different molecules will produce a new result or outcome.
Then, the students read about how chemical engineering relates to medicine and created their own “pills” and “pill coatings.” The learners tested their creations in cups of acidic liquids that simulated a stomach. Through the different experiments, students are learning how chemical engineering has some fundamental principles that impact our everyday life such as the characteristics of materials and healthcare. These interactive and innovative experiments are a great way to get students excited and curious about STEM!
