Imagine you’re on a roller coaster in Jurassic Park, roaming around to see all different kinds of roaring dinosaurs. Well, that became a reality in our Virtual Reality class this week in Chatham! It was part of the roller coaster project that took up their Wednesday. One roller coaster even featured a ride into a Tyrannosaurus Rex’s mouth! While the dinosaur rides were very popular, campers also made medieval-themed and horse-themed ones. This project was most campers’ favorite experience.
Campers also made obstacle courses. Some made their course à la Wipeout, with big red bouncy balls and swinging hammers. In Virtual Reality, they program their games on CoSpace. They learn about “for each” loops, “while” loops, and much more.
For the last part of the week, campers in Virtual Reality are programming a final project. They range from bowling with brick blocks, shooting zombies, disappearing dragons, and trippy simulators. One student is making a Whack-A-Crab. He programmed the crabs, the buttons, and he tried to program a score. The crabs are dynamic, popping up at random times and speaking when clicked on.
Ryan, the teacher of Virtual Reality, comments that the class is “never boring, always fun because we’re using cutting-edge technology and every camper is excited to learn.”
